A friend of mine called me the other day and to vent on how life has been really crappy recently and to see if I had any advice. Having experienced this phenomena once or twice, I had the following to say:
I would tell you not to worry, but it sounds like you already are. Keep an open mind because your worry could cause more problems, internally and externally, than what is really there. With health concerns, x-rays can be effective, but remember that the human spirit can conquer many issues and illnesses, something that will never show on those pieces of vinyl. So relax, breathe and ask God for strength, wisdom, and guidance through this and every day. The law of attraction dictates that what we put out returns to us in kind, so if you are stressing out you will receive more stress. Put happiness out and you will receive more happiness. Granted, sometimes you have to put out a lot, but remember the amount that is coming back will be in direct proportion, so don’t be afraid to exude joy. Most of us forget this and then get mad when the little we put out doesn't have the returns we want. Instead, we release a greater amount of fear, anger, and stress to the universe and then complain when tons of these negative emotions are returned to us.
Yes, I have been guilty of forgetting these wonderful words of advice from time to time in my life. Thus I have looked like a hypocrite or a two year old stomping my feet wanting to take my ball and go home (as I know every adult has felt like doing at some point). When I finally become sane again and my skin turns back from being green, I remember the sage words of advice that, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes you might find you get what you need." (Rolling Stones, 1969) If that isn't enough to quell the demons inside from raging about a person or issue that I know is a train wreck waiting to happen, then I have to say, "Let it be" (Beatles, 1970) because it or they are as they want to be and only by sending love in that direction will I find the peace need to move on.
That being said, I will now return you to your regularly scheduled life. Please place your seats and trays in the upright positions because it is going to be a bumpy ride. I see life as an amusement park. Every day you wake up you get to use a ticket to pick the ride you want to be on that day. I would advise picking one that you like to ride and smile about it because the ironic thing about life is that no one bothers to tell us how many tickets we are going to get. Remember that life is only a ride that you are on for your amusement and, before you know it, you will be asked to exit the park. Whether or not you were able to find satisfaction and enjoyment on the rides before you have to get off is strictly up to you and your ability to relax and enjoy it.
With that I'll get off my soapbox and again say relax, smile, and go hug yourself because you are loved by at least one person in this world. If you don't think that one person is the one looking back at you in the mirror, then know that the person that loves you is me and that will never stop. Your presence puts a smile on my face when I think of you, as I hope thinking of me places a smile on yours. As I am not there to take you out and “act a fool” for your amusement (because I’ll do anything for a laugh!) I suggest you go watch a funny movie or listen to some happy music to help turn your mood and thus your life around. I like listening to 70’s and 80’s disco and pop during these times because these genres remind me that I should not take life too seriously. We survived that era we can survive anything.
